January 24, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo.Ray was born on April 17, 1927, in Gainesville, Mo., son of the late D.P. Herd and Genevieve (Shaw) Herd.Ray served his country honorably in the United States Army and was discharged on April 17, 1947. For over 30 years, he owned and operated Herd’s General Store in Monett, retiring in 2003. For many years, he was a member of the First Baptist Church before beginning to attend the First United Methodist Church with his wife.On December 17, 2005, Ray was united in marriage to Trina Chapa in Eureka Springs, Ark. He is survived by his wife, Trina, of Monett; one son, Ron Herd, and his wife Cathi, of Navarre, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Crawford and Michael and James Nicholas Boeving; and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Crawford.Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Boeving; and four brothers.Funeral services for Mr. Herd will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Monett. Reverend Juan Velasquez will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home.
